What does a transfer facility do?

A transfer facility receives waste and moves it through the next step of the process. It often serves as a place where waste is combined, sorted, or prepared before being taken to another facility for recycling, treatment, or disposal.

Why not take waste straight to its final destination?

In some cases, sending waste through a transfer facility can save time, reduce hauling costs, or make it easier to manage larger amounts of material. It can also help connect waste with the right next stop when the final destination is farther away or better suited for a certain type of waste.
