Phoenix is a Canadian clean-tech solution provider with over a decade of experience in material reclamation and recycling. Our head office is located in the city of Markham, Ontario. Our history in recycling has led us to explore new technologies and ways in which to help our planet.
We initiated our plastic to fuel project in 2008 with the first prototype demonstration machine being built in 2009. In 2012, a 5-tonne per day pilot plant was established in Hong Kong’s ECO Park. In 2013, Phoenix was a runner-up in the Start Me Up Hong Kong Venture Programme Awards which included more than 400 companies from 39 countries worldwide. This gave us the encouragement to continue our research and fine-tune the operation and system design.
In 2014, Phoenix established a fully operational facility in Huizhou, China. This facility can process 20 tonnes of hydrocarbon based waste (HW) per day with an annual output of 8,000 tonnes of fuel products. Our next generation Phoenix renewable oil (PRO) micro-refinery system has improved significantly since the original invention and the operation only require approximately 2000 square metres to set up.
The highly adaptable Phoenix PRO system can accept a wide range of HW material, having successfully processed plastics (unsorted and unwashed), scrap tyres, palm oil residue and other HW. There are many sources of feedstock available but our initial focus is on the industrial and commercial waste materials which are available in large quantities.
The Phoenix PRO system is a modular, scalable, clean emission, closed loop design. Our existing plant is a 20-tonne processing facility which is already being expanded.

Critical Roles in the Waste Management Process
Waste handlers are individuals or organizations responsible for managing waste at various stages of its lifecycle. This includes the site where waste is generated, the transport of waste to designated facilities, and the facilities that receive and process the waste. Each waste handler plays a vital role in ensuring that waste is managed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental regulations.
Collaborative Solutions Across the Waste Chain
Waste handlers operate at multiple points in the waste management process, from on-site waste generation to final disposal or recycling. Generators focus on proper segregation and preparation, transporters ensure safe and compliant movement of waste, and receiving facilities process materials for disposal, recycling, or reuse. Together, these waste handlers create a seamless system that supports responsible waste management.
Supporting Compliance and Sustainability
Whether managing household trash, industrial waste, or hazardous materials, waste handlers are essential for maintaining safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental health. Many waste handlers adopt sustainable practices, such as recycling and energy recovery, to minimize the environmental impact of waste. By working with professional waste handlers, organizations and communities can ensure their waste is handled responsibly at every stage.

What type of waste services do most waste companies offer?
Most waste companies offer services such as garbage collection, recycling, and hazardous waste disposal. Depending on the company, they may also provide specialized services like medical waste disposal or electronic waste removal. Additionally, some companies may also offer consultation and sustainability services. It is best to check with your local waste company for a complete list of services they provide.
What happens if I need additional services?
Suppose you require additional services, such as an extra garbage pickup or special disposal for hazardous materials. In that case, it is best to contact the waste company directly to discuss options. Many waste companies are willing to accommodate special requests, but there may be additional fees associated with the extra services.
What are common types of waste facilities?
Common waste facilities include landfills, composting centers, and incineration plants. Landfills are the most common waste facility, where trash is buried and then covered with soil. Composting centers process organic materials, including food scraps, yard trimmings, and agricultural wastes, into a nutrient-rich fertilizer for the soil. Incineration plants burn solid waste such as paper, plastic, and other non-toxic materials, which can reduce the volume of trash by up to 90%. Depending on the location, some waste companies may also offer specialized services like hazardous material disposal or medical waste treatment.
Do all waste companies offer recycling?
Most waste companies offer some recycling service, although the types of materials accepted and the collection methods may vary. Many waste companies also offer a special program for electronics or hazardous materials that must be disposed of safely. It is best to check with your local waste company for more information on what types of services are available.
What is the most sustainable way to manage my waste?
The most sustainable way to manage waste is by reducing, reusing, and recycling. Reduce the waste you produce by avoiding single-use items and investing in more durable goods. Reuse items whenever possible, such as donating unwanted clothing or furniture instead of throwing them away. Finally, recycle any items that cannot be reused, such as paper and plastic. Additionally, composting organic material can help reduce the amount of waste going to landfills.
