Covanta Dade Renewable Energy, LLC operates the Miami-Dade County Resources Recovery Facility on 160 acres in Doral, FL. The facility began commercial operation in 1982 and serves the municipal waste disposal needs of the residents of Miami-Dade County. The facility processes 3,000 tons of municipal solid waste per day and 1,200 tons per day of biomass fuel, generating 77 megawatts (MW) of renewable electricity. Approximately 26,000 tons of ferrous (steel) metal and 2,000 tons of non-ferrous (tin, copper) metal are recovered and recycled by the facility each year.
