The Babylon Waste To Energy Facility, operating as Covanta Babylon, Inc., began commercial operation in April 1989 and serves the Town of Babylon, NY. Located on almost 10 acres adjacent to the town's landfill in West Babylon, Covanta operates the facility under an operating and maintenance contract with the Town of Babylon. The facility processes 750 tons per day of solid waste and generates up to 17 megawatts of renewable energy. With a landfill moratorium on Long Island, the facility provides an environmentally safe way to dispose of waste. This facility also operates with a "zero discharge" of process water, which means that all wastewater generated on-site is treated and reused. Covanta Babylon also operates a water treatment plant which processes leachate water from under the old town landfill to be used in the Energy-from-Waste process.

What should I know before contacting a waste company?
It helps to have a basic idea of what you need help with before reaching out. Knowing the type of waste, how much there is, and whether you need pickup, drop-off, or something more involved can make the conversation a lot easier.
What information should I have ready before asking for service?
It is helpful to know what kind of waste you have, about how much there is, and where the service is needed. If the job has a timeline, access issue, or special handling concern, that is good to mention too.
